2015 Weihai ITU Long Distance Triathlon Series Event Comes to a Successful Close

At this year's event, an athlete from Russia won the Elite Men's title while an athlete from Poland led the Elite Women's race. The long distance competition challenged the triathletes' physical fitness and willpower as they sought to complete the 3km swim, 80km bike ride and 20km run, a total distance of 103 kms.

At this year's event, an athlete from Russia won the Elite Men's title while an athlete from Poland led the Elite Women's race. The long distance competition challenged the triathletes' physical fitness and willpower as they sought to complete the 3km swim, 80km bike ride and 20km run, a total distance of 103 kms.

Nikolay Yaroshenko from Russia claimed the top prize in the Elite Men's race with a time of 4:11:37:90. Denis Vasiliev, also from Russia, swept second place clocking in at 4:17:08:04.

Poland's Ewa Bugdol won the first prize in the Elite Women's event with a time of 4:46:33:49, followed by the runner-up Carina Brechters of Germany (4:48:37:04) and the third-prize winner Caroline Koll of South Africa (5:27:22:29). Of note, Ewa Bugdol has participated in the Weihai triathlon for three successive years, entering the event for the first time in 2012. She took the gold medal in 2013.

The Weihai triathlon competition is now been in its eighth year, since the inaugural event in 2008. Weihai's triathlon track has been recognized by the International Triathlon Union as both the world's most picturesque as well as the world's most difficult, and the city has gradually been earning the well-deserved moniker as the world's Triathlon capital.
