Unique Master's Programme in Social Protection Starts this Year

"The goal is to enable students from various countries to analyse social protection systems and design them in light of the national needs and capacities," claimed Professor Dr Esther Schüring, academic head of this new, international study programme at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University. "Our students will be given an in-depth overview of social protection systems across the world and their underlying mechanisms, and we will provide the best preparation for leadership positions in this sector."

The three-semester study programme is unique in Germany as well as in the European Union. It combines the advantages of face-to-face and distance-learning phases and is offered in collaboration with renowned experts, for instance from the World Bank, the World Health Organisation, AOK Consult or HelpAge. The accumulated know-how (better: expertise) will not only benefit future students: "We are planning to make individual modules accessible to professionals," Schüring said. "This is particularly important for persons who would like to specialise without having to pursue an extensive study programme."

"Social security is one of the many global challenges that have to be faced", added Professor Dr Hartmut Ihne, President of Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University. It has therefore been a strategic decision to offer a study programme which enables employees of ministries, social insurance providers, NGOs or international organisations to further their education.

The Master's programme is scheduled to start this winter semester and will cost € 3,.500 per semester. For more information or to apply, please visit: http://www.ma-socialprotection.de
