The Global Cleantech Summit 2015 to be organized in Helsinki in September provides an international discussion and innovation forum for the global challenges of today: How to mitigate the impacts of climate change and the other pressing environmental concerns? How to succeed and take effective steps towards a better future with clean technologies?

The Global Cleantech Summit is a process and platform for corporate directors, political decision-makers, investors, researchers and all stakeholders to discuss the opportunities that cleantech solutions can provide. The Summit offers insights and business contacts to the solutions and success stories in the Nordics.

China and India have been and, at present, continue to be the world's fastest growing large economies. However, from an environmental perspective, growth in both economies has been largely "dirty" growth causing abject environmental challenges. Many Finnish companies have turned these challenges into business opportunities. The success stories of tomorrow are created today, and perhaps they will be initiated in Helsinki, comments one of the keynote speakers at the Summit, Dr. Anil K Gupta.

Dr. Anil K. Gupta is widely regarded as one of the world's leading experts on strategy and globalization. Thinkers50 has named him as one of the world's 50 most influential management thinkers. Professor Gupta will talk about economic growth in both China and India, the resulting environmental challenges and the opportunities they might represent for cleantech.

Global Cleantech Summit looks into future business opportunities

Global Cleantech Summit 2015 brings together the business potential of the future. There are countless of examples from all over the world of companies that have been able to provide concrete commercial solutions for the major environmental challenges of our times within their area of expertise. Finnish companies are well-known for their expansive array of clean technology, including: technology for renewable energy; new materials; energy-efficient solutions and services for industry, construction and ships; chemical solutions for water recycling; and weather stations. Recent innovations include: biofuel for transport; transforming waste into products and energy; waste-sorting robots; components and machinery for utilizing wind and solar energy and especially smart grids; indoor air cleaning; energy-efficient lighting; and new transport and delivery solutions.

Cleantech forms one of the fastest growing sectors in Finland, demonstrating that success is not dependent of a major domestic market. The cleantech sector employs approximately 50,000 people in Finland, and 40,000 jobs are expected in the field by 2020.

"This is a huge amount in a country with a population of just over 5 million. There are many concrete lessons to learn from Finnish smart solutions, whether in the field of transport, circular economy or agile smart grids," says Antti Peltomäki, Deputy Director General, DG GROW, European Commission. Peltomäki is one of the Summit's keynote speakers, who will be giving a talk on 9 September on revitalizing the European industry.

The Summit on 8 September will discuss global transformation, value chains and business co-operation. The Conference on 9 September will continue discussions in global industrial revolution and division of labour. The afternoon sessions will review the same from different angles like global value chains, key enabling technologies, future mobility and will also give insight to the cleantech success stories from around the globe. Challenges and opportunities in the minerals sector will be addressed on 10 September at the Cleantech Innovations in Minerals Production Conference. Issues relevant in the Arctic are given a special attention.

Various company visits will take place on 10 September, when conference guests have a chance to find out more about the way clean technology has been implemented. Guests can choose between visits in Helsinki for smart life and blue cleantech, a bit further away to see the end of waste and a visit close to the Russian border for advanced bio visit.
