The four-day exhibition and conference was unveiled and officiated by senior officials from the industry, namely Mr Andrey Dutov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Mr Evgeny Velikhov, Academician, Member of Presidium Russian Academy of Sciences, Mr Alexey Kontorovich, Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of Research Council of Russian Academy of Sciences for Geology, Oil and Gas Resources Development and Mr Michael Duck, UBM's Global Maritime Director and Executive Vice President, UBM Asia Ltd.

Mr Mikhail Mokretsov, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg, presented his welcome speech in the grand opening ceremony mentioning that, "Today, the Arctic shelf of Russia is a vast region requiring industrial development that is of top priority for our country." He emphasised the significance of Arctic shelf development as major geostrategic goal of Russia.

Mr Georgy Poltavchenko, Governor of St. Petersburg and Mr Alexei Miller, Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom visited and greeted exhibiting companies such as Gazprom, Gazprom Dobycha Shelf, Gazprom Neft-Sakhalin, Lukoil, Sevmash, Gazprom Neft Shelf, FMC Technologies, Schlumberger, Gazflot, Krylov State Research Centre, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, Prometey Central Research Institute of Structural Materials, Shtokman Development AG and a wide range of other companies presenting equipment, engineering and maintenance services for Russian offshore shipbuilding as well as Korean Pavilion and other international exhibitors from Сhina, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway.

Offshore Marintec Russia had more than 200 exhibitors showcasing the latest technologies in oil and gas extraction, design technologies for various marine facilities, nuclear energy equipment and petrochemical and refinery, hydrocarbon production and building equipment for shelf development.

The Offshore Marintec Russia Conference ran concurrently with the exhibition. A total of 430 delegates from 12 countries were present, with over 120 presentations being made, and roughly 5,000 specialists from China, Finland, France, Germany, Korea, the Netherlands, Norway, Russia and Ukraine in attendance. The conference provided delegates with an excellent overview of various prospects for the oil and gas industry and its strategic goals.

Mr Kirill Molodtsov, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation stated that, "Natural resources represent, first of all, strategic reserves for the Russian Federation, and the continental shelf is the largest and most promising region for exploration of minerals in modern Russia."

The session was attended by federal executive and legislative authorities, scientists, top managers of the largest Russian companies, all of whom specialised in hydrocarbon extraction, storage and transportation. All discussion participants mentioned that Russia today has all the potential to develop new advanced means of geological exploration. In this regard, it is crucial to consolidate efforts in science, business and related industries.

Exhibitors at Offshore Marintec Russia provided positive feedback and reported having a host of excellent meetings with high -- calibre delegates. The success of Offshore Marintec Russia is due in large measure to the contributions and continuing support of Russian Government ministries and departments throughout the years, and their generous assistance and advice in all aspects.

The next Offshore Marintec Russia is scheduled in 2016 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
