La Federazione Russa (, "Rossijskaja Federacija",) chiamata comunemente anche Russia, è uno Stato che si estende tra l’Europa e l’Asia.Con una superficie di 17 075 400 chilometri quadrati la Russia è il Paese più vasto del pianeta.
Confina con Norvegia, Finlandia, Estonia, Lettonia, Lituania, Polonia, Bielorussia, Ucraina, Georgia, Azerbaigian, Kazakistan, Cina, Corea del Nord e Mongolia; insieme alla Cina è lo stato al mondo con il maggior numero di stati limitrofi (14). Inoltre possiede dei confini marittimi con il Giappone (attraverso il mare di Ochotsk) e gli Stati Uniti (attraverso lo stretto di Bering). È bagnata a nord ovest dal mar Baltico nel Golfo di Finlandia, a nord dal Mar Glaciale Artico, a est dall’oceano Pacifico e a sud dal mar Nero e dal mar Caspio. Comprende anche l’exclave dell’Oblast' di Kaliningrad, compresa tra mar Baltico, Polonia e Lituania.
