Tanzania

La Tanzania, formalmente Repubblica Unita di Tanzania (Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania in swahili, United Republic of Tanzania in inglese) è uno Stato dell'Africa orientale. Confina a nord con Kenya e Uganda, a ovest con Ruanda, Burundi e Repubblica Democratica del Congo, e a sud con Zambia, Malawi e Mozambico. A est è bagnata dall'Oceano Indiano.
Dar es Salaam è la città più grande ed è stata la capitale fino agli anni settanta. Il trasferimento delle funzioni amministrative nella nuova capitale designata Dodoma, posta nel centro della Tanzania, non è stato ancora completato.
Il nome "Tanzania" è un portmanteau creato dalla fusione di "Tanganica" (nome dell'amministrazione fiduciaria britannica che corrisponde alla Tanzania continentale) e "Zanzibar"; fu adottato quando i due soggetti si unirono nel 1964.
In Tanzania sono stati ritrovati alcuni dei più antichi reperti fossili umani. La Gola di Olduvai, in particolare, è stata resa celebre dagli scavi di Louis Leakey e altri. (fonte: Wikipedia)
