Lady Gaga Leads With Six Nominations for the "2011 MTV EMA", Followed by Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Adele, Justin Bieber and Thirty Seconds to Mars

MTV today announced the nominees for the "2011 MTV EMA" with leading the pack with six nods, and and following closely behind with four nominations. British songstress , who stands as the top-selling artist of the year, has been nominated for three awards, with and also up for three. The 18 annual MTV EMA will broadcast live on   from Belfast's Odyssey Arena on MTV channels around the world.

The "2011 MTV EMA" are sponsored by Dell, Replay, Hyundai and Swatch.

As always, the MTV EMA - MTV's international celebration of the year's best in music - features nominees from across genres, recognizing today's hottest acts and global superstars.             and are each up for two EMA nominations.

New to the "2011 MTV EMA" is the award, which will go to the most passionate fan base for a particular artist. Beginning Monday, 19 September, viewers can vote for their favourite EMA artists by visiting http://www.mtvema.com. The more fans engage with the EMA content featured on the site, the more their participation and points can boost the chances for their favourite artist to win.

Also new this year is the category, which celebrates diversity and the breadth of all the music that MTV has to offer by nominating incredible artists from all corners of the world. Fans will be able to vote for an artist/group from their respective territory in Europe starting Monday, September 19 , and then those local winners will vie for the European title the week of 17 October. The representative for Europe will be announced the week of 24 October along with the regional nominees from Latin America , North America , Asia Pacific and Africa / India / Middle East , and those five regional nominees will then battle for the "World Wide Act" distinction. The winner will be named at the show in Belfast .

The "2011 MTV EMA" will be available to a potential viewing audience of more than 1.2 billion people via MTV's global network of more than 60 channels reaching more than 640 million households around the world as well as through syndication. In addition, its convergent programming and content will reach the entire interactive community, via MTV's nearly 200 digital media properties around the world. Richard Godfrey and Bruce Gillmer are Executive Producers for the "2011 MTV EMA."  

The "2010 MTV EMA", held in Madrid , was the event's most watched telecast ever with a total of 22.2 million viewers tuning in to MTV and VIVA channels around the world.  The 17 annual show saw a +61% increase year over year with the coveted P12-34 demographic and grabbed a +72% increase in live streams of the show online to more than 4.5 million.
