When distress flares reach the end of their lives, the explosive material that they contain can become unstable and potentially dangerous. The flares become officially classified as Time Expired Pyrotechnics, or TEPs, and need to be disposed of by experts authorised to carry out the work.

1st Portsmouth Sea Scouts, a voluntary organisation whose activities are primarily focused around the water and incorporate many aspects of naval and nautical traditions, had recently found no fewer than 50 of its distress flares were out of date.

Ramora UK takes their social responsibilities seriously by way of helping the local community, and was quick to offer its services free of charge to the scouting troop.

The flares were inspected and disposed of by Ramora UK's experts on site, at The Boat House in Bath Square, Old Portsmouth on Thursday 12th September 2013 with no disruption to the troops activities.

Philip Jones, Scout Leader of 1st Portsmouth Sea Scouts, commented: "Ramora UK have provided the 1st Portsmouth Sea Scouts with an extremely professional, courteous and timely service which has been invaluable to the group. This has allowed us to continue to focus our time, effort and limited funds on offering boating activities safely to Sea Scouts of all ages."

David Welch FCMI, MIExpE, MIABTI, Ramora UK's Managing Director, added: "The collection and disposal of these potentially dangerous items should be dealt with by experts. I am delighted that, once again, Ramora UK could assist in providing the local community with this service."
