NEWPORT NEWS, Va., April 15, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that its SN3 subsidiary is sponsoring the annual TotalDECOM 2016 Conference taking place April 18-20 in Manchester, England.

At the conference, represented decommissioning industries will discuss decommissioning complexities experienced across different sectors and engage in cross-sector learning. Guest speakers will offer sessions for policy-makers and representatives from businesses, academia, regulatory bodies, agencies and suppliers to discuss innovations in decommissioning technology and engineering.

"As a leader in the waste management industry, SN3 understands the unique challenges of deactivation and decommissioning (D&D) work and is committed to innovation, quality of service and concern for the environment," said SN3 Vice President Barbara Mazurowski, who will present at the conference. She will discuss early and proactive planning and address managing environmental complexities while maintaining collaboration throughout a project.

"TotalDECOM highlights cross-sector collaboration, which is vitally important in decommissioning," said Bob Granata, SN3's vice president, northeast and UK operations. "We can work better together to improve our chances of mutual success. Our D&D work needs to be accomplished safely and with no impact to the environment. We are all better served creating a mutual culture and sharing these skilled resources to achieve a common goal of safe performance."

From the operation of nuclear production facilities at Savannah River to site remediation and waste management at Hanford, SN3 manages complex projects that are crucial to national security, advancing science and technology and protecting the environment. With a 50-year legacy of safe performance, SN3 earned the first nationwide, multi-site Department of Energy Voluntary Protection Program STAR award.
