Thanks to a $4,485 Special Needs Assistance Program (SNAP) grant from Southside Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas), she has been able to replace her roof.

“I don’t have to worry about it raining in my house anymore,” said Ms. Reddic. “I am so thankful for this grant.”

SNAP grants assist income-qualified, special-needs homeowners with necessary home repairs and modifications. The grants are awarded by FHLB Dallas through participating member institutions, such as Southside Bank.

“SNAP helps the aging residents of our community by providing critical repairs to homes,” said Southside Bank Vice President and CRA Officer Brooke Mott. “We are grateful for partnerships with organizations such as FHLB Dallas that allow us to strengthen the communities we serve.”

Since SNAP’s inception in 2009, more than $11.6 million has been awarded in grants through FHLB Dallas member institutions to assist more than 2,300 families across FHLB Dallas’ five-state District of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas. In 2016, FHLB Dallas awarded nearly $1 million in SNAP grants that assisted 205 families. The $1.5 million in 2017 SNAP funding, made available in January on a first-come, first-served basis, has been exhausted.

“Many residents are on a fixed income and cannot afford critical repairs such as roof replacement,” said Greg Hettrick, first vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas. “It’s important for community banks to make these funds available to residents who need them.”

Southside Bank has utilized SNAP in partnership with FHLB Dallas since 2011. Since then, they have assisted 28 households by awarding $162,682 in SNAP grants.
