Roberto Piaia in Marmomac 2018 | Verona Fair

A work of art created by Roberto Piaia in Carrara statuary marble will showcase at Hall 7 Stand G 7-3 of the Group Ingemar Marmor in Tolosa, during the Marmomac international Fair.
Mindelheim | Germania, (informazione.it - comunicati stampa - fiere ed eventi) The demonstration dedicated to marble and granite is now in its 53rd edition and will be held in Verona from 26th – 29th of September 2018.

The "Iris" statue will be displayed for the event, it is the first model with the unmistakable spiral-shaped technique, which is the result of Piaia's distinguished talent. It has been exhibited in the most prestigious Italian locations. For the 54th Biennale in Venice, Italy Pavilion in 2011.
At the Triennale Visual Arts in Rome, Vittoriano Complex, Ala Brasini in 2017. And now, at this importantly interactive fair attentive to art, located in the Verona, a city recognized by Unesco's historical and cultural heritage of humanity.

Attendance at the Marmomac fair is to learn about new trends in stone design and architecture. It offers updates on new technological innovations in stone or marble processing and on their evolution. Furthermore, it pays a lot of attention to art, following the interest it has recently developed towards the design world.

Therefore a perfect showcase to present Piaia’s innovative work to an international public. Created both in Statuary Marble of Carrara, and in Bronze and Resin. These works combine the classic with the modern, contributing to the embellishment of any environment in which it is placed.

Iris:
Made of marble, the subject of the work is the female figure. The body, while maintaining the volumetric framework, is formed by a double helix that is winding on itself and creating a spiral that makes the movement coexist with its lightness.

While remaining faithful to its form, it releases her from any appeals. The artist thus manages to make a young woman’s figure real, and away from any naive reproduction. On her knees, with her head slightly reclined and her face gazing upwards without any pupils, she is elevated to the dignity of an image that emanates introspection.

The Spiral Statues:
Piaia’s research has deepened in many fascinating directions over the years, prompting him to translate the values of painting in terms of sculpture.
His works unite the classical to the dynamic, proving through these (in addition to execution ability), that he can shape art with novelty, and not so much to create completely new artworks.

Built using Carrara statuary marble, resina, and bronze casting through lost wax processes, the statues are created with the face, the hands and the feet, where the typical Piaia executional skills stand out.
This world premier innovation consists in the creation of the body: the volume structure is built around a double helix which wraps around itself; with a “full” visual effect in which the form is underlined through a coil, while the void appears suddenly, leaving room for imagination.

Ingenious Creations:

This is a very difficult job, attempted by many but never actually realized, characterized by a precise study of solids and voids, realized in a perfect balance of matter that does not need any support.

These statues employ strange perception and perspective, and seem impossible to achieve in reality, furthermore, they take us back to a strong mathematical component by the master who inspired Piaia: Dutch graphic engraver Maurits Cornelis Escher, 1898-1972.
Only a great compositional experience and a deep knowledge of the subject, have allowed Roberto Piaia, after years of intense research and study, to realize his creations through drawings, sketches and oils on canvas with bodies outlined through a spiral.
The idea of this particular form of roberto Piaia's sculptures - worldwide premier - has been copyright recognized and protected.
